Chuck Shorter

Chuck Shorter’s passion for music began in 1962 in Philadelphia, when he first heard a radio playing on top of his family’s refrigerator—a moment that sparked a lifelong love of music and broadcasting.

Soon after, he bought his first records:

  • “Go Away Little Girl” – Steve Lawrence
  • “Ruby Baby” – Dion

Growing up in Philly during the golden age of radio, Chuck was inspired by legendary stations like WIBG and WFIL, along with shows like American Bandstand, which cemented his ambition to become a DJ, entertainer, and musician.

In 1974, Chuck attended broadcasting school and began his career in media, working at WCAU-TV and Radio before moving into the music industry with CBS Records in 1977. Over time, he progressed through roles in merchandising and sales, eventually relocating to the Washington, DC / Maryland area, where he built a successful career in the music business.

Chuck’s on-air career includes:

  • Hosting a pro wrestling radio show on WMET (1989)
  • Co-creating and hosting a long-running TV show (1994–2014)
  • Returning to radio in 2003 on WYRE, playing music from the 1940s to today

Alongside broadcasting, Chuck spent over 40 years as a mobile DJ, performing at weddings, corporate events, and live functions, and also performed in a wedding band from 1979–1984.

Now retired from radio sales, Chuck continues to follow his true passion—entertaining audiences and preserving the music he loves—through his work with Charting In The USA: Country Style.Charting In The USA – Country Style is a two-hour Top 30 countdown show featuring the biggest country songs in the United States for a specific broadcast week in a chosen year, based on the Billboard charts.

Each episode takes listeners on a journey through time, revisiting the Top 30 country hits from 1955 through 2005, blending nostalgia with music history.

The show is an evolution of an earlier concept Chuck created while working as an on-air DJ with Solid Gold Gem in the UK, originally a one-hour pop countdown. He later expanded the idea into a full two-hour format, creating the Charting In The USA brand.

With over four decades of experience, Chuck Shorter brings energy, authenticity, and deep musical knowledge to every show—continuing his lifelong mission.
